Fortinbras Records takes its name from the character of Fortinbras, Prince of Norway, who speaks the final words in Shakespeare's Hamlet.

Hamlet was first performed in 1600, at the turn of the 16th to the 17th centuries. Fortinbras Records releases music written in the same time period: the bridge from the Renaissance to the Baroque.
